Sit Down: Forklift Operator

As a Forklift Operator, you will be responsible for efficiently pulling orders for shipment to customers, managing direct ship ports, and handling truck load reports along with other shipping functions. You will transport parts from the market area to assembly lines and finished goods, supply presses with containers, and ensure the safe movement of stampings.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and follow company rules and regulations, maintaining a satisfactory work area through the implementation of 5S.
  • Conduct daily safety checks for towmotor start-up and perform dock/platform inspections before use.
  • Engage dock locks before entering trailers and adhere to refueling procedures.
  • Inspect racks for damage, clean old labels, and ensure no parts protrude above racks before moving them.
  • Inspect shipments for damaged racks and ensure packaging instructions are followed to prevent damage during transport.
  • Ensure bar code labels match part numbers and are scanned according to work instructions.
  • Pull parts from stock in FIFO order for shipment staging and maintain proper flow of press and small parts Kanban.
  • Report production activities accurately and adhere to compliance rules on EH Boards.
  • Lead by example in attendance, quality, and accountability while being willing to work overtime and weekends as required.

Essential Skills

  • Forklift and tow motor experience with 3-4 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs without mechanical assistance.
  • Good basic math knowledge and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and coordination skills.
  • Successful completion of tow motor training and certification.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience with RF scanners, packing, material handling, loading, shipping and receiving, and order picking.
  • Night shift availability with times from 3:00pm - 1:45am, with potential for adjusted shift times.

Work Environment

Work in an automotive manufacturing environment with over 50 automated welding robot cells and 8 stamping presses. Expect exposure to sparks and smoke from robotic welders.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $17.85/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
